Who am I?
First of all, I'm a freelance Marketing and Communications specialist, based in the Midlands, UK, who is passionate about Pinterest and wholeheartedly love my life.
My family, friends and acquaintances tell me that I’m a very positive people person. I love people and I’m always passionate about wanting to help. Consequently, throughout my life I have coached and supported others. I take the time to listen, guide and advise people struggling with day-to-day anxieties and concerns. As a result of my wisdom I encourage and enable others to reach their goals and make life changing decisions.
I have really, really loved my freelance marketing career and as I’ve always loved what I do, therefore, I now need to develop and change how I do things. The marketing environment is changing rapidly. It's time to start my social media journey, so that I can share my knowledge, expertise and experience. Not wanting to limit the number of people and businesses I touch, online marketing is the only way I want to go. My goal is to become a digital marketing guru!

Where to start.......?
Brought up in a working class family, my parents were publicans and didn’t socialise out of work, other than an annual cruise.
My father died of a massive heart attack at 59 on Christmas Eve, he worked hard and instilled a hard work ethic in me as a child too. As a result of his loss my life changed immeasurably, he was my life and it took a long time for me to accept that loss and let go. I was broken for a good number of years.
No stranger to death
Life hasn’t been easy; there’s been a lot of pain and heartache; my brother never got over losing our father, so sadly he drank himself to death. He died of cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 49.
Also, my niece, his daughter, unexpectedly died in her mother’s arms at the age of 26 without any previous symptoms or warning. Unfortunately her immune system was shot as she had an eating disorder when she was young, anorexia. Anorexia is a most horrendous and serious mental health condition. My nephew, his son, died at the age of 36 after 9 years battling cancer. Strange how things happen, MSRA got him in the end, he was too weak to fight it.
Sometimes, when I look at my sister-in-law I often think of a passage I read in Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.
'And it was all there, in her lovely face. The lines, high on her cheeks, were the dams she used to keep the tears in her eyes. Unspoken, unanswerable questions parted her full, red lips, whenever she was alone, or absorbed in her work. Determination stiffened the defiant thrust of her cleft chin. And her forehead was always slightly creased in the centre, between the brows, as if she was grasping, in those folds of skin, the monstrous and pitiable understanding that no happiness exists without its woe, no wealth without its cost and no life without its full measure, sooner or later, of sorrowing and death.'
But don’t get me wrong, none of us wallow in self pity; we enjoy life and make the most of what we have. It’s not what you’re dealt; it’s how you deal with it that counts.
One of my favourite quotes is:
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, a love of what you are doing.” Pelé
At school I didn't excel, in fact after staying an extra year I came out with very few qualifications and had to claw my way to success. I worked hard, persevered, learnt, studied, made a lot of sacrifices and overall loved what I was doing.
From the age of 17 until I was 40, I went back to college in the evenings and over weekends. Year in and year out I studied and as a result I succeeded in getting my MBA whilst working full time.
Being a successful freelance Marketing and Communications specialist, I have supported small businesses and held interim roles in large FTSE organisations. Now it’s time to do something different. My diverse and comprehensive background gives me a solid foundation in all that I do. Working across many industries has given me broad and practical real life experience.
The love of my life
My husband and I have been together for 23 years, married for 11 of them. He has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. With Michael I got two gorgeous and delightful step children, who are wholeheartedly everything in my world. I love Michael more than I have ever found a way to say to him, words can't express how much he means to me.
It’s just the two of us these days and that’s why I need change. My interim roles always took me away from home and you know what, I don’t want to be away from my husband weeks at a time. I came to the conclusion that I needed to do something different.
After contemplating my next move, I decided that the internet as a next step was the best route to continue with my marketing and communication skills from home.
Finally, there is another special addition to my life and that's Esme, my gorgeous, beautiful and lovely cat. Yes, I adore her. She appeared in November 2015, scared, lost, hungry and looking for love. She most definitely found it here. As a small kitten and with no neighbours we just took her in as a stray and as she chose us to be her carers, she has been with us ever since. She is a delight and my shadow... wherever I go she follows. As I'm writing this, she is curled up asleep on my desk to the left of my laptop. Most of all she is great company and a treat to have around.
My experience with social media and internet marketing is limited and I need to learn more about it and decided to start with Pinterest. Pinterest is a platform I love, which can only be described as a most passionate love affair and my husband would say “your guilty pleasure”. However, I would say my guilty pleasure is Pretty Little Liars.........
I use Facebook on a personal basis; I've played with twitter, but not entertained Instagram or YouTube, as yet. I’ve not run any webinars or podcasts and not held a Periscope broadcast, that’s a new dimension to my journey, however I will.
Some years ago I qualified as a counsellor and executive coach. I volunteer my services with the Black Country Food Bank, a charity that feeds families in need. Voluntary work and making a difference is what I would love to do more of. This journey will enable me to spend more time serving others in the not too distant future.
When I’m not pinning, I meditate, read fiction and personal development books, I love to read. I practice yoga, exercise daily and care for family members. Addicted to organic espresso coffee (only one double espresso a day mind). Vodka is my spirit of choice, however I will have a good malt whisky occasionally. I savour fine red wine and healthy good food. I lost a stone in weight last year, another one to go. I thoroughly enjoy cooking being a passionate chef. I'm always looking for recipes so that I can try something new. Recipes are just a guideline, I never follow them 100% and always double the amount of garlic. One of my favourite places is my bed. I need my sleep and enjoy the luxury of reading whilst having breakfast in bed each morning. Bliss.
I’m also training to be a nutritionist in my spare time. And if none of that floats my boat I’ll chill out with Netflix which is a huge weakness of mine! I thoroughly enjoying travelling to different places and countries. I love taking long weekends, I want to slow down, do less, enjoy and nurture the whole experience of this wonderful privilege, called life.
Being a type 2 diabetic, I have to take care of myself and make considered choices to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
